How we check the places on this list
Where the facts come from
We read each place’s own website, or its own Facebook or Instagram page when it has no website, and record its own statements about what it offers children: ages, weekly schedule, prices and their units, languages, trial classes and whether a parent must stay.
Addresses, map points and opening hours can also be read from the place’s Google Maps listing. For sports clubs, membership of a federation may come from that federation’s published club list.
Each fact is stored with the address of the page, the date it was read and a short quote in the language of the source. Directories, press articles, booking sites and reviews are never used as sources.
Source flags
Every source carries one of three flags: published by the place (its own website or social page), Google listing (its entry on Google Maps), federation list (a sport federation’s list of member clubs).
On a place’s page the flag and the date sit next to each fact, so you can see where it comes from and how recent it is.
Facts that are not published
When the pages we read do not state a fact, the place’s page shows it as not published and the table shows a dash. “Not published” describes our sources and says nothing about the place itself.
Gaps are not filled by guessing. School years (anos de escolaridade) are not turned into ages, and prices are not converted from one unit to another.
Group times and opening hours
The table has two time columns. Group times: the days and hours of a class, an ATL session or a camp day, as printed by the place. Opening hours: when the building is open, often taken from the Google listing.
A place may be open at an hour when no group for a given age runs. When a row has opening hours and nothing else, it goes after the dividing line and says so.
The after-school pages use weekdays from 15:00 to 18:00. A class is included if a group starts inside that window; an ATL is included if its hours, extensions counted, cover the whole window.
What we do not measure
- No place, coach or programme is rated, scored or ranked.
- Nobody visits the places; every fact comes from a published source.
- The quality of teaching, coaching or care is not assessed.
- Vacancies in a group are not tracked; ask the place.
- Prices are shown as printed, with unit and date, and are not confirmed with the place.
Right to reply
If you run a listed place and a fact is wrong, missing or outdated, send it through the correction form with a link to the page that shows the right fact.
A correction backed by the place’s own pages goes in at the next update and is logged on the changes page. A closed place keeps a page with a closed mark and is removed from all tables.
A place may also ask to be removed: choose “Ask to remove a listed place” in the correction form and give a contact that shows you run it. The place, its page and its rows in the data files go within a month.
Dates and updates
Each place’s sources are reread within 6 months. Prices printed for a period now over remain on the place’s page with that period; the filters and the summary line leave them out.
How the site is funded
Places do not pay to be listed, and payment cannot change a row or its position, which always follows area and name.
A place’s page may show one link to a partner service, labelled as such. Clicks on contact buttons are counted as totals, without personal data.
Open data
The full list can be downloaded as JSON, one record per place, and as CSV, one row per programme. Both files carry every source, flag and date, and name their licence.
Areas, distance and the map
Areas are Lisbon’s parishes (freguesias), the municipalities around the city and a few neighbourhoods. A branch goes to the area whose centre point is closest, so an area name may differ from the postal address.
Distance is measured in a straight line from the point you pick to the nearest branch and shown in half-kilometre steps. Your location is requested only when you press the button and stays in your browser.
Points placed from an address are only approximate. The map uses data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
